Professor Veronica Preda enjoys managing all aspects of endocrinology including: Type I and II diabetes (including pumps); thyroid disease; endocrine disorders during pregnancy; PCOS; osteoporosis and bone health; pituitary and adrenal disease; neuroendocrine tumours and cancer genetic syndromes related to endocrinology.

She is experienced in endocrinology having completed a Fellowship at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Metabolism and Endocrinology in the UK as well as a PhD on tumorigenesis pathways in sella masses. She undertook advanced endocrinology training at Royal North Shore Hospital after completing her core physician’s training there. She also has a background in General and Emergency Medicine & Intensive Care, having worked at a number of hospitals in the NSW Health network.

Dr Preda completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine through the University of Sydney with research grounded in Oxford on tumour pathways. She holds a Masters of Public Health and graduated with Honours in Medicine from the University of New South Wales. Dr Preda is a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney Medical School teaching medical students as well as post graduate Masters of Internal Medicine students. She is a Professor with the Faculty of Medicine at Macquarie University. Prof Preda has more than 35 peer-reviewed publications in internationally respected medical journals and specialist textbooks.

Prof Preda continued her collaborative research with Oxford and Sydney Universities, writing her PhD on tumorigenesis pathways in sella masses including pituitary and endocrine cancers. Her research has been presented at several international meetings and in international journals. She is the clinical lead of the Macquarie MD Research Program and Head of Department at Macquarie University.

Prof Preda consults and teaches at Macquarie University. She leads the Type I Medical Device clinic, Health Weight Metabolic service, and Pituitary Neuroendocrine service. She also consults inpatients and has admitting rights at North Shore Private Hospital.

BREAST CANCER AND ENDOCRINE SURGEON

Dr Tamara Preda is a Sydney based specialist in breast cancer and endocrine surgery with a background in general surgery. She has extensive knowledge and experience in the management of benign and malignant conditions of the breast, as well as thyroid and parathyroid disease, and is a Lecturer in Surgery for the University of Notre Dame.

Holding an MBBS from the University of New South Wales and a Master of Medicine (Surgery) from the University of Notre Dame Australia, Dr Preda is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS). Dr Tamara Preda combines extensive clinical experience with a strong academic and research background, contributing to both surgical practice and medical education.

Dr Tamara Preda currently practices as a Consulting Surgeon at Sydney Breast Clinic and serves as a Visiting Medical Officer with BreastScreen across Northern Sydney and the Central Coast. Previous roles include Visiting Medical Officer in breast, endocrine, and general surgery at Liverpool Hospital. Dr Preda has completed comprehensive surgical training through the Australasian SET program, with rotations across major tertiary and regional hospitals in New South Wales, gaining broad expertise in general surgery as well as advanced training in breast and endocrine surgery.

Further subspecialist development includes accredited fellowships with Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand (BreastSurgANZ), completed at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth and Royal Adelaide Hospital in South Australia. These fellowships provided advanced experience in breast, endocrine, and surgical oncology, supporting Dr Tamara Preda's current clinical focus.

In addition to clinical practice, Dr Preda is actively engaged in medical education and professional development. She is a Clinical Lecturer in Surgery at the University of Notre Dame Australia, contributing to curriculum development, assessment design, and teaching of undergraduate medical students. Dr Tamara Preda also serves as a clinical examiner and has been an external examiner for postgraduate research presentations.

Dr Tamara Preda holds several professional memberships, including Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand, General Surgeons Australia, and the Australian and New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons.

Dr Tamara Preda maintains an active research profile with numerous peer-reviewed publications spanning surgical oncology, endocrine surgery, bariatric surgery, and surgical education. Recent work includes publications in the American Journal of Surgery, Surgery Open Science, and ANZ Journal of Surgery, with research ranging from artificial intelligence in surgical skills assessment to clinical outcomes in endocrine and gastrointestinal surgery. Dr Tamara Preda has also contributed to a textbook chapter on parathyroid surgery.

Dr Tamara Preda adheres to RACS continuous professional development frameworks through activities such as attendance at national and international conferences as well as specialised surgical workshops. In addition, interdisciplinary medical school research collaborations have been undertaken.

Through a combination of clinical excellence, academic contribution, and commitment to education, Dr Tamara Preda continues to play an active role in advancing surgical practice and training in Australia.
